You've probably noticed an Eames Lounge Chair at some stage of your lifetime, but you might not have understood the importance of its design when you did. The leather and wood seat, which also includes an ottoman for optimal relaxation, was contemplated as an icon of contemporary furniture design in 1956.

What Makes the Eames Lounge Chair So Special?

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman were the designers' first venture into the luxury layout. They have been motivated by 19th-century British club seats, the black leather armchairs with curved arms, tufted chair backs, and usually nailhead or timber accents.

Charles is quoted as having said he desired the sofa seat to have "the warm receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt." A modernist effect is a distinctive form that arguably resembles the mix of a lavish office seat along with a leather recliner.

It's a series of craftsmanship that is thinner and much more lightweight than a conventional club seat, and–most would argue–too more comfortable.

The seat is comprised of three shaped plywood cubes comprising multiple layers of plywood using a high veneer coating of the wood grain. The rear braces on the seat as well as the foundations of both the seat and ottoman are aluminum, and the seat includes a swivel mechanism.
